With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and qualified Mine Geologist to join our Geology team based on site at the Karara Mine.

Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, you will be required to perform mine geology and grade control duties through maximising the value of the ore reserves through the collection and interpretation of geological and geometallurgical data and minimising ore loss and dilution.

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and is FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton. Graduates will be considered as well as Mine Geologists with at least two years’ experience.

Key responsibilities;

  • Planning, implementing, modelling of grade control data and estimation (blockout)
  • Interpreting geological data
  • Mapping and logging of geological structures
  • Assisting the survey team in ore block mark ups
  • Spotting and monitoring ore/waste movement during digging operations
  • Implementation and management of dilution control practices
  • Daily data entry, checking and validating of grade control data
  • ROM, Stockpiles and blending management
  • Daily and weekly production reporting and forecasting
  • Management of consumables
  • Liaising with mining contractors and other operational departments

Essential criteria:

  • Australian recognised Geology degree or equivalent
  • Current WA class C manual drivers licence
  • Knowledge of Surpac and Leapfrog (desirable)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work as part of a small team of dedicated and motivated individuals
  • Experience in mine geology and grade control in a large open pit mining operation is ideal
  • Iron Ore experience is desirable
  • Current National Police clearance
